In 1776, 56 men signed their names on a document that they knew might well mean their certain deaths as traitors to England.
Standing on principles of faith and liberty, these men forged a powerful call for freedom and human dignity still resonating today in America.
Yet, historical revisionists have distorted or attempted to wipe away every trace of this nation`s Christian heritage, including the heartfelt faith of these founding fathers!
We need to arm our families with the TRUTH about the founding of our country and provide the knowledge to be able to authoritatively speak to those in your sphere of influence. The founders were prolific writers. We don’t have to wonder what they believed! It’s available to teach our families so we can be thoroughly equipped to spread the truth. It was never needed more than now. Our freedoms are eroding quickly, and we need to be able to have the wisdom to protect our the freedom we enjoy.
So, let’s play a little game!
Here are 4 statements that you commonly hear about the founders of our country, specifically the signers of the Declaration of Independence.
Do you know if they are true?
1.The signers of the Declaration were atheists or deists.
FALSE
The vast majority were Christian- by their own testimony. Listen to some of their own words:

It becomes a people publicly to acknowledge the over-ruling hand of Divine Providence and their dependence upon the Supreme Being as their Creator and Merciful Preserver . . . and with becoming humility and sincere repentance to supplicate the pardon that we may obtain forgiveness through the merits and mediation of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ ~ Samuel Huntington- Connecticut

[I]f you are not reconciled to God through Jesus Christ – if you are not clothed with the spotless robe of His righteousness – you must forever perish. [H]e is the best friend to American liberty who is the most sincere and active in promoting true and undefiled religion, and who sets himself with the greatest firmness to bear down profanity and immorality of every kind. Whoever is an avowed enemy of God, I scruple not to call him an enemy to his country ~ John Witherspoon-New Jersey

I . . . [rely] upon the merits of Jesus Christ for a pardon of all my sins ~ Sam Adams- Massachusetts

Thanks be given unto Almighty God therefore, and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die and after that the judgment [Hebrews 9:27] . . . principally, I give and recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it and my body to the earth to be buried in a decent and Christian like manner . . . to receive the same again at the general resurrection by the mighty power of God. ~ John Hart- New Jersey
2.The majority of them owned slaves or were pro-slavery
FALSE
Only a handful ever had slaves. They fought to see the practice ended. 1774, Benjamin Franklin and Benjamin Rush founded America’s first anti-slavery society.

Domestic slavery is repugnant to the principles of Christianity. . . . It is rebellion against the authority of a common Father. It is a practical denial of the extent and efficacy of the death of a common Savior. It is an usurpation of the prerogative of the great Sovereign of the universe who has solemnly claimed an exclusive property in the souls of men
~ Benjamin Rush
3.Thomas Jefferson cut the words of Jesus out of his Bible because he didn’t like that part.
FALSE
Thomas Jefferson actually said:

“No nation has ever existed or been governed without religion. Nor can be. The Christian religion is the best religion that has been given to man and I, as Chief Magistrate of this nation, am bound to give it the sanction of my example”
4.The Founders believed in separation of church and state
FALSE
Significantly, Jefferson was instrumental in establishing weekly Sunday worship services at the U. S. Capitol (a practice that continued through the 19th century) and was himself a regular and faithful attendant at those church services, not even allowing inclement weather to dissuade his weekly horseback travel to the Capitol church.

You‘ll be amazed at what you haven’t learned. It’s like uncovering treasure – the treasure of a godly heritage- and it belongs to us!
