What is Discretion? – Hey Little Buddies! It’s Uncle Rick

UR-ProverbsHey, little buddies!

The Bible says, “A man’s discretion makes him slow to anger, And it is his glory to overlook a transgression.” That’s from Proverbs 19:11. Do you know what discretion is? It means being careful in what we say and do. It means always thinking about the possible results of our words and actions.

It’s the most natural thing in the world to get mad when somebody does something mean to you. That’s why most people get angry when it happens. But here the Bible says that a man with discretion doesn’t get mad easily. It also says that it is a man’s glory to overlook a transgression. OK, what does all that mean in real life?

First, people will do mean things to you. You might as well understand that and be prepared for it. This Scripture verse promises that it is a “glory” to you if you overlook it instead of letting your temper take control. You can show the world that you are a Christian and different from other people. It’s always braver and better to forgive an offense than to give one in return. Pray for God’s help in this because it’s not easy. But if you learn to be forgiving instead of taking offense when others do you wrong, you will stand out from the crowd and people will respect you for it.

Someone who wants to do right is careful of what he says and does. So he doesn’t respond without thinking, spewing out anger and bitterness. And he learns to overlook the offenses of others. It’s part of growing up, both naturally and spiritually.

I’m asking you to be different, ok?

Let me know how you’re doing with patience. I always love to hear from my little buddies!
