Our Traditional Sugar Cookie Recipe:

3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
2 1/2 c. all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder

Mix thoroughly shortening, sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Blend in flour, baking powder and salt. Cover, chill at least 1 hr. Heat oven to 400 degrees. Roll dough 1/8 ” thick on lightly floured cloth-covered board. Cut into desired shapes. Place on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 6-8 min. or until very light brown. Yield approx. 4 doz. cookies

 

Bakers Clay Recipe (for ornaments)
4 c. all purpose flour
1 c. salt
1 1/2 c. warm water
Mix flour and salt. Add water, mix until dough no longer sticks to the sides of the bowl. Then knead dough on lightly floured surface about 10 min until smooth. Work with half the dough at a time, keeping the rest in a plastic bag or refrigerator.
Roll dough 1/4″-3/8″ thick. Use floured cookie cutters. Immediately use nail to make hole for hanging. Use spatula to lift onto cookie sheet. Bake at 150 degrees for several hours. Then air dry overnight. Paint as desired and then spray with glossy craft spray.
