Psalm 119:97 says, “ O how love I thy law! It is my meditation all the day”.
Kids need to be involved with God’s Word during the day.
Memorizing is the first step in meditating. Meditating has been compared to a cow chewing her cud. First she swallows it, then brings it back up, and chews it all over again.
In order to meditate you have to first commit the Scripture to memory by getting it into your mind and then contemplate it, think about it, and finally decide how to apply it to your life. That’s when it makes it’s way from your head into your heart and works out in your life.
Our kids need us to help them with this.
Do you want your kids to be wiser than their enemies? Then teach them God’s Word.
Psalm 119: 98 “Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies, for they are ever with me.”
Do you want your kids to accomplish greater things than you do? Then teach them God’s Word.
Psalm 119: 99 “I have more understanding than all my teachers, for thy testimonies are my meditation.”
Do you want your kids to be wiser than previous generations by practicing God’s precepts? Then teach them God’s Word.
Psalm 119: 100 “I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts.”
Do you want your kids to keep away from every evil way? Then teach them God’s Word.
Psalm 119: 101 “I have refrained my feet from every evil way, that I might keep thy word.”
Do you want your kids to learn to be committed to following God’s ordinances? To be taught by our awesome God? Then teach them God’s Word.
Psalm 119:102 “I have not departed from thy judgments: for thou hast taught me.”
Do you want your kids to experience the sweetness of a personal relationship with God? Who wouldn’t? Then teach them God’s Word.
Psalm 119: 103 “How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!”
Do you want your kids to be gaining an understanding for living a successful life? Then teach them God’s Word.
Psalm 119:104 “Through thy precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way”.
Do you want your child to get daily direction from God’s Word? Then teach them God’s Word.
Psalm 119:105 “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
God’s Word will give my child an increased sensitivity to right and wrong to learn to choose wisely- So teach them God’s Word.
Psalm 119:11- “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”
Jesus, when tempted by Satan, used Scripture to resist temptation. Scripture will help our kids as well to resist evil. There are so many other benefits that I don’t have time to mention them all- but I’ve got to share one more-
Joshua 1:8 “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success”.
If you want your kids to grow up to serve God, the very best, most helpful thing you can do is to teach them God’s Word and help them apply it.
Isaiah 55:11 “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”
This one thing you can be sure of: Any time you invest in teaching your kids to hide God’s Word in their hearts is NOT wasted time.
Our older kids have attested to the fact that later in life as they face temptations or tough circumstances, a Scripture they learned as kids, often will just pop into their heads when they need it.
When you build a “Scripture bank” in their minds and hearts, it will be there when it’s needed. One of my daughters-in-laws said, her husband is like a walking Bible and a walking hymn book. When you fill your kids’ heads with God’s Word, it will stay with them for life.
